Drive it up!

Plan to go on a wild drive? Here are some tips to navigate and conquer any terrain.

Drive it up!

Driving in the dark: Zooming across in the night has a thrill of its own. But before you do that, adjust your eyesight to the flickering lights and shades on the road. Changing the angle of the rear view mirror to avoid the glare of the headlights on full beam tailing your car helps. Get out of the way of dazzling headlights of cars meeting you head on. When visibility gets really low, the only precaution you can take is to slow it down!

Wet driving: The roads get slippery and the going can get tough when rain pelts down your windscreen. Turn on the dipped headlights and peripheral lighting to maximise visibility. Also maintain braking distance with the cars in front.

A foggy drive: Driving can be tricky when surrounded by fog. It's driving blind, so the heavier the fog the slower your car needs to go. Refrain from random bursts of speed when you see the fog clearing as you never know what lies ahead. Drivers should turn on dipped and fog lights to gain better visibility.

Mucking it out: Don't be James Bond and feel that your car will never get stuck! Simple checkpoints are to observe the tyre tracks of other vehicles to gauge whether the mud will hold the weight of your car. Also it marks out the way that has been most frequented.

Driving with the wind: The first thing that you have to do when the wind is blowing everything possible in your way is to roll up your windows. This will shut the dust and the
howling to enable you to drive with a steady hand. Be prepared to honk and apply emergency brakes when unimaginable objects cross your path.

Driving to the hills: Run a thorough check of your vehicle so that it is geared up to navigate the winding roads. Especially get your brakes checked and back-up-tyres on board because you never know when you are going to need them. Checking the weather condition and knowing the mountain will go a long way to keep you on track. Be very careful while navigating sharp curves, refrain from overtaking and honk well in advance to announce your
presence.

High on highway: On the highway when you feel the adrenaline surging to challenge your speed limits, stop and go steady. Do not steer suddenly or you may lose control of your car and roll over. Turning lights should be switched on well in advance while overtaking or changing lanes.
