Chemoil Adani eyes more ports for its bunkers

Chemoil Adani, which currently services six ports with direct bunker supply, plans to bring more ports under its ambit soon.

The company is a 50:50 joint venture between Adani Group and Chemoil, a subsidiary of global commodities major Glencore.

“At present, we plan to source bunker from state-owned oil companies and supply it to shippers at other ports. We may consider tying up storage facilities at these ports at a later date,” said Ameet Desai, spokesperson, Adani Group.

Glencore officials did not wish to comment on the story.

At present, leveraging the Adani-controlled port at Mundra, Chemoil Adani supplies bunkers at six Gujarat ports —- Sikka, Jamnagar, Vadinar, Bedi, Okha and Navlakhi. Bunkers from Mundra port are transported through barges to these ports.

The company also plans to extend this supply through barges to Mormugao port, Goa next month.

Ten other ports are serviced with bunker supply in association with state-owned oil companies —- Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, Mumbai, New Mangalore, Cochin, Tuticorin, Chennai, Vishakapatnam, Paradip, Haldia and Colombo. Sources said the company is busy chalking out plans to ensure direct bunker supply at these ports.

Much of this action would unveil in the next three months, said a source.

Company officials, however, did not share the timeline or investment figure.
