C'Wealth Games effect: Cabinet Secretariat budget increased by nearly 19%

The budget for the Cabinet Secretariat has been moderately increased by 19% to Rs50.12 crore, keeping in view expenses of the VK Shunglu Committee probing the allegations of corruption charges in the conduct of Commonwealth Games.

During 2010-11, the budget for Cabinet Secretariat was Rs42.06 crore which has now been increased to Rs50.12 crore, which will include provision for salary of ministers and ministers of state, travel expenditure of officials of the secretariat, ministers and other establishment related expenditure of the secretariat.

"The provision is for expenditure on salaries, travel expenses, office expenses and other establishment related expenditure of the Cabinet Secretariat. This also includes provision for the High Level committee headed by SK Shunglu to look into the issues relating to the organisation and conduct of Commonwealth Games, 2010," the budget document said.

The high-level committee led by Former Comptroller General of India VK Shunglu was set up by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on October 25 last year and asked to submit its report within three months time. The term has been increased to March 31 this year.
