Budget 2011: Delhi Police gets Rs3,340.75 crore; Rs504 crore more

Delhi Police today got a Rs504.22 crore increase in the budget allocation for the next fiscal with finance minister Pranab Mukherjee allocating Rs3,340.75 crore for its functioning.

In the 2011-12 budget presented in Lok Sabha by Mukherjee, the city police was allocated a total of Rs90 crore in plan head while Rs3,210.75 crore was earmarked for non-plan expenditure.

Another Rs10 crore has been allocated for constructing residential buildings for policemen while Rs21 crore has been earmarked for building offices.

Last year, Rs2,836.53 crore was proposed in the budget, which had showed a decrease of Rs127.50 crore from the previous fiscal.

This fiscal, the revised budget showed that Delhi Police actually spent Rs3131.70 crore.

The budgetary provisions for developing traffic and communication network and a model traffic system has seen an increase of Rs2 crore to Rs82 crore this year.

Last year, a 100% increase was seen in this head from Rs40 crore to Rs80 crore.

However, out of the allotted Rs 80 crore in 2010-11, only Rs seven crore was spent. A senior police official attributed the non-spending to the force's inability to find a suitable company to execute the project.

A 100% increase is seen for components like expansion of communication infrastructure, training and induction of latest technology. All these heads are allocated Rs one crore each for the next fiscal.

This fiscal, Delhi Police managed to spent the whole Rs50 lakh earmarked in these heads.

For installation of traffic signals, another Rs two crore has been allocated.
