BSNL launches 3G in Pune

BSNL launches 3G in Pune

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), the public sector telco, has launched 3G services in Pune, which is under the Maharashtra telecom circle.

The telco aims to launch its 3G services in 53 more cities in Maharashtra and Goa in the next couple of months. BSNL and MTNL are the only telecom operators providing 3G services in India on date.

3G services allows video calling, high-speed internet with download speed of up to 3.6 Mbps. BSNL has paid Rs 10,186.58 crore to the government for pan-India 3G spectrum, excluding Delhi and Mumbai circles. The telco first launched its 3G services in India in Chennai in February 2009 ahead of the spectrum auction.

The telco has also rolled out ‘BSNL Live’ WAP portal to support its 3G services with downloadable contents like movies, music, mobile TV, video, wall paper, ring tone, etc. Besides, the firm also offers the medium of datacards to access high-speed internet with free all-India roaming.

Plans ranging from Rs 249 to Rs 2,499 are available with both postpaid and prepaid options.

While 3G services are available in postpaid and prepaid mode with local and national video calls to be charged at 30 paise per minute, datacard is available at prepaid and postpaid format in a range of Rs 249 to Rs 2499 per month.
