All Air India flights to operate under single code from Feb 27

All flights of Air India (AI) will operate under a single code, AI (098), from February 27.

Despite the merger of erstwhile Air India and Indian Airlines three years ago, flights of the respective carriers were operating under different codes, putting passengers into difficulty.

A single code would mean seamless transfer from domestic to international flights and vice versa on the Air India network on a single ticket.

So from Sunday, the Delhi-Mumbai flight IC165 will operate under AI665 code and IC167 will be AI659. Delhi - Tirupati flight IC952 will be AI542, IC7803 to Ludhiana will be AI9803. Incoming flight to Delhi from Hyderabad IC939 will be AI559 and IC168 from Mumbai to Delhi will be AI660.

Air India has selected the specialist SITA to provide passenger service system and also various modules such as the revenue management system, revenue accounting system, internet booking engine and loyalty plus etc.

This operation, of all flights under a single code, will be a major step in Air India becoming an active partner of global airline grouping, STAR alliance.
