The e-Gram project the of state government, which has so far covered 13,700 villages, is all set to begin its second phase soon. Airtel, which is a partner in the project, has chalked out the second phase plan. Of the total over 18,000 villages in the state, 13,700 have already been covered while in the second phase aims at covering the remaining villages.

Under the e-Gram project, all the 13,700 villages of Gujarat are linked online. With the project's first phase, all 13,700 village panchayats are in a position to provide basic and as well as important services to their residents in Gujarati language with the availability of VSAT connectivity. e-Gram - Viswagram issues electronic certificates including certificates of birth, death, income, caste, domicile, property, residence proof, agriculture, tax collection, marriage, family information and land ownership.

"We are one of the partners in Gujarat government's e-Gram project, where we will be providing complete data solutions to the villages of the first phase. With our complete data solutions, all the villages and their panchayats could connect through VSAT communication technology-based broadband connectivity.

Villagers can also take advantage of internet and cyber services through the establishment of these e-Gram services," said Milan Rao, CEO, B2B business, Bharti Airtel. Rao further said that now Airtel is also working on second phase.
