After 10 months, Ramalinga Raju appears before court

It is now the turn of the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad, to be taken for a ride by the prime accused in the Satyam accounting scam B Ramalinga Raju. Despite the hospital authorities disallowing Raju to step out of the hospital, he decided to go out at risk to appear in the court.

Raju appeared in the court almost after 10 months and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been making every effort to make Raju step out of the hospital and attend the trial process in the lower court.

“There was no permission for him to go out. But he refused to hear. He has informed the authorities that his decision to go out is at his own risk and the hospital would not be found at fault in case of any eventuality,” a senior official source at the hospital said.

After appearing in front of BVLN Chakravarthy, the additional chief metropolitan magistrate hearing the Satyam case, the magistrate allowed him to go back to the hospital on health grounds.

The arguments continued in the Satyam case on Tuesday with the counsel representing the accused in the case challenging the slapping of section 409 of the IPC.

The case has been posted to August 26 for further hearing. Meanwhile, Raju is planning to approach the court again seeking specific exemption from attending the court sessions on health grounds. The CBI, too, is likely to file an application in the Supreme Court during this week for cancellation of the bail granted to Raju.
