Adani Power among groups shortlisted for Kosovo power plant

Kosovo has short-listed four international bidders for a tender to build a 1,000 megawatt coal-fired power plant, the minister of energy and mining Justina Shiroka- Pula said on Friday.

The four groups include India's Adani Power; AES of the United States and Turkey's Demir Export AS; Turkey's Park holding; and a consortium including Greece's Public Power Corp and ContourGlobal of the United States and Britain.

"We have decided that four of the six applicants that have submitted expression of interest have meet the pre-qualification criteria," Shiroka-Pula told a news conference.

Earlier on Friday Czech power group CEZ said it would not take part in the tender as part of a consortium with AES because of delays in the project and changing terms.

Last year Kosovo gave up its plans to build a 2,000 megawatt power plant aimed at turning the Balkan country into a regional power exporter due to a lack of investor interest. It has since scaled back the project to a 1,000 MW plant costing from €700 million to €1 billion.
