Sensex extends early gains on GDP growth

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex extended early gains by rising over 330 points in the noon trading today on better-than-expected showing by the economy in the second quarter of this fiscal.

The Sensex rose by 330.84 points to 16,962.85 soon after the CSO data released said that country's economy grew by a significant 7.9 per cent in the second quarter of this fiscal, the fastest in over 18 months.

Marketmen said the trading sentiment turned bullish, snapping a two-day 3.3 per cent decline on Dubai debt crisis.

The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty also rose by 102.10 points to 5,043.85 with major stocks recording handsome gains.

Badly battered stocks of banking, realty and metal segment bounced back on emergence of buying by foreign as well as domestic funds.
