Restaurant review:Tangled indeed

Tasty Tangles in the UB City in Bangalore, with its Oriental fare and reasonably priced drinks menu, is a good lounging option

Restaurant review:Tangled indeed

There’s one thing about UB City, it works as an easy getaway from the noisy, polluted, traffic clogged lanes in the city. This luxury mall houses some of the most happening eating and drinking options, one amongst which is Tasty Tangles that I chose to check out on a rainy Sunday evening.

While this Oriental resto-bar initially was launched as an eating option, their bar, which opened last December, has ensured that people don’t mind that quick drink with a small nibble here. I decided to go check the place out keeping in mind the same idea, since I needed ‘that one drink’ after a long day at work.

Sitting in the outdoor section, with a view of the other restaurants in this piazza level, my companion and I placed the order for our first drinks. While she chose to have one of their signature Oriental cocktail that was named Red Lotus (lychee, cream and cranberry juice with vodka, topped with lime), I chose a Kaffir Lime Caiproshka.

I was extremely impressed with my drink, the kaffir lime taste lingered, but it wasn’t overpowering. The Red Lotus had an interesting taste, though the cream seemed to be a wrong choice as it was lost amidst all the flavours.

We ordered for three starters, Duck Wantons, Dry Fried Chicken and Aromatic Chicken Dumpling. The food, unfortunately, didn’t quite match up to the good start that we had with the cocktails. The filling in the wantons tasted funny, the dumplings were quite pungent and the fried chicken lived up to its other prefix, it was extremely dry. And we were forced to waste parts of all the three dishes (there were just three portions of the dumpling and wanton served in the first place!).

Luckily, our second set of drinks, the Cosmopolitan and the Russian Coffee, salvaged it to a little extent. The coffee-based cocktail, which had rum and an assortment of liqueurs, was one of the better drinks that I have tasted in a long time.

The second set of food on the table (Chilli Chicken, Thai Steamed Basa and Sweet And Sour Crispy Vegetables) was slightly better than the first order.

While we weren’t too keen on main course after the extensive set of starters we’d ordered, the main course here is said to be quite the draw, apart from the good cocktails that the barman can mix up here.

While the staff is courteous and friendly, the food could do a little bit of prepping up, especially to meet the demands of some of the more discerning customers. With most of the items in the menu priced reasonably and the service being rather quick, this place isn’t too bad.
