New trends in bridal wear and dresses this season

Owner of the boutique store, ffolio, Yashodhara Shroff talks about the new trends that have come up in bridal wear and dresses this season...

Q: Tell us about the new collection that has come up at your store. What are some of the outfits one can sport this summer?
A: We have a new range of designer wear for summer from designers like Rahul Mishra, Vivek Kumar, Tarun Tahiliani where the outfits vary from dresses to saris. With a wide variety of jewellery, shoes to other accessories, it’s time to go light this summer. From a range of floral clothing to choose from, materials like cotton, linen, georgette and even chanderi can be tried around this season.

Q: It’s also the bridal season; what are some of the trends you’ve noticed in that category?

A: People are opting for interestingly done lehengas with unique cuts. For instance, if you take the dupattas, one can find numerous designs and patterns on it. With heavy sequins and embellishments, they make the entire lehenga look astonishing. Designs for saris too, have become more modern and contemporary.

Q: Lehengas or saris, what do people prefer now?
A: Even though South Indian women prefer saris for most of the occasions, I see a change in the trend now. With south Indian families celebrating mehendi and other customs that are not part of their tradional wedding process, women are now choosing to sport a lehenga at least for one of those occasions. Be it for the muhurtham, reception, mehendi or any other religious custom, lehengas are definitely in vogue. Colours like fuchsia, coral and other fresh coloured lehengas are quite popular. Thanks to Bollywood for the massive influence!

Q: Do people still prefer wearing heavy embellishments and sequined outfits?
A: It usually depends on the kind of sequinned top one is wearing. However, the traditionally hand-woven sequin is still in. Instead of the heavy ones, chanderi work, lace and kanchivaram silk woven tops have become quite popular.

Q: Now that it’s summer, what kind of dresses must one sport at parties?

A: Keep away the little black dresses, and opt for floral dresses this season. Go in for short, knee-length dresses in summer prints. As far as the fabric goes, I think georgette dresses are quite in vogue. Apart from the basic colours, go for brighter hues.
