Get to Guetta!

Get to Guetta!

In India, David Guetta right now, as people like to put it these days, is ‘trending’ — and how. He’s being written about, talked about, quizzed about and is probably the only thing EDM lovers are looking forward to this quarter. Yes, the man is going to be here on March 11 as part of the second edition of Eristoff Invasion, so you might as well buy your tickets before they run out and get your EDM shoes in place. In an interview with DNA, Guetta talks about his upcoming concert…

Even after playing to millions of fans across the world, is it still unnerving when you play in a country for the first time?
I get a little nervous when I play to people for the first time. I have wanted to play in India for a long time; but it was just not possible with my recording and touring commitments. I have heard that my records have reached your shores before me though. I’ve always wanted to visit the country, so it’s great that I’ll also be able to perform live on my first visit. I’m really looking forward to bringing my music and festival set to a new audience.

What will that play list for India look like — have you made one yet?
Of course I will play my hits, but mixed with the more underground beats I love as a DJ. I read the people; it’s my mission to make them go crazy, so what I will play will depend on the connection we make together.

Getting to the No 1 position can’t be that simple — surely you have been inspired by people who demonstrate the same kind of creativity and commitment to music...
My roots are firmly in dance music but artistes such as Kings of Leon and Coldplay influence me also. As do fresh producers like Nicky Romero, Afrojack, Skrillex and Avicii. Talent and people who are passionate about what they do inspire me. I also really take inspiration from the clubs; how the people react to a beat; how they dance.

Which has been your most memorable concert so far?
One that I will never forget was the Brazil carnival where I played in front of two million people! It feels incredible because of the energy you receive from the people. But it’s not only about playing to the biggest crowds possible. I like to play at stadiums of course, but equally like to balance the big shows with more intimate club gigs where I can play more new sounds and see the whites of people’s eyes. I love that intimacy and connection.
