Take care of yourself internally: Deepti Gujral

What’s in your make-up bag?
A moisturiser, a kajal pencil, mascara and a lip gloss from MAC. On days that I’m not working, I like to wear minimal make-up.

Describe your skincare routine
I wash my face twice — morning and night and use a toner. This is followed by a moisturiser and sunscreen.

What’s your go-to beauty look for a red carpet event?
It would depend on what I’m wearing. I sometimes use a light liquid foundation to even my skin tone, a compact powder, thick liner and a red mouth. Other times, I opt for smoky eyes and nude lips.

What do you think is sexy, beauty-wise?
I’d say smelling good! Being hygienic and having a pleasant smell at all times.

Who were your idols growing up?
I love Rekha’s make-up, she does it loud but it still looks amazing. Also, Madhuri Dixit-Nene still looks so beautiful.

Any tips you’ve taken from beauty artists and use daily?
I’ve learnt less is more. Even while covering spots or blemishes, don’t apply so much foundation that it looks cakey. You should allow the skin to breathe.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve tried in the name of beauty?
A friend once suggested that I use a paste of turmeric and milk on my face since it got broken into a rash. Suffice to say the next day I had a yellow-stained face.

What product do you turn to for a beauty boost?

Instead of products, I’d suggest detoxing your body to avoid getting blemishes. If I have binged I avoid junk food the next week. If you take care of yourself internally, your skin will glow.

Do you have a signature fragrance?

I love Balenciaga and Narciso Rodriguez.

Do you gravitate toward a lip colour and if so, which shade?

My favourite is Lovechild by MAC, it’s an amazing pinkish-purple colour.

Do you think it’s important to stick with a signature look?

No, I think one should experiment and change one’s look according to the occasion.

Are you good at applying your own make-up?

Yes, over the years I have learnt. However, I can do my face not anyone else’s.

What’s your ultimate beauty tip?
Use aloe vera gel on your face, especially after coming indoors from the hot sun. Also, ice cubes are a great way to revive tired skin.

What’s the best beauty advice you’ve got?
Initially, when I started modelling I was told not to forget the neck while applying foundation. It’s important to ensure the face and neck match.

One beauty elixir you can’t live without
A moisturiser and lip balm.
