Celebrate humanity
Hanee Chavan

A powerhouse and the most vulnerable,
Her worth is incomparable.
Don't confine her to her roles,
She has an infinite soul.
But he too, isn't less powerful
He isn't a ruthless harsh cruel
He too has emotions and tears,
But he chooses to fight his fears.

FEMINISM. A heavy word indeed. It is basically equating the position of men and women.

By this, am I saying women are not equal as men? No. Today in society women do not have an 'equal position' but in no aspect are they not equal and we slowly but surely are working towards it. Each sex has its own strengths, which makes it different and unique. Our differences make us special and not weak. The spectacle of equality is currently biased, but one day, equality will prevail.

But extremists have ruined 'feminism' for everyone. At this rate, we are probably going to need a 'Menism' movement to equate men's position to women. People are actually anti-feminist and many women don't even know what it is. This is such a concern.

But where there are patriarchal societies, there are also matriarchal societies. The Mosuo, Minangkabau, Garo, Akan, Nagovis and Bribri are a few matriarchal societies across the globe. What happens to women happens to men too. If women get raped, so do men. If women lose their job and opportunities because of the other sex, so do men. If women get cheated on, so do men. If women are suppressed, so are men. The major difference is numbers and the magnitude. But injustice is done to both sexes. Don't be anti-men, be pro equal opportunity for both the sexes. And I'd also like to stand up and mention the LGBTQIA and the various other genders who also deserve equal opportunity.

Imagine that here is a group of people trying to push the wall of ignorance. And what if one half of the group is tied behind and not allowed to push that wall. Will that wall move forward? Will we be able to move ahead? Similarly, if one gender is held back, the entire human community will not be able to move ahead. We will be stuck in the chains of ignorance, tied to our feet.

As the wind blew a little by little,
Our confident ain't brittle,
It's their call against the stride,
Oh! I didn't know they had pride.

We have stopped treating people like humans. Everything gets reduced to your sexuality or gender preferences. We don't want a society where any sex or individual is denied opportunity. Our goal is equality and not elevation of any sex. Be it men or women, no one should be elevated. Together we are the strongest force in the universe, and individually we are just a bunch of organisms. We can't move forward alone.

So, think about it. Do you want to stand up for every woman in your life, be it your mother, sister, wife, girlfriend or daughter? Or do you want to be an ignorant individual who wants to follow herd mentality. The choice is yours, and so is the world. Do your bit, stand up against injustice and inequality, whichever sex or gender it is.

It's time to stop celebrating women only on one day, instead celebrate every woman and man every day.
