The wait is finally over. The BJP juggernaut dominated UP and Uttarakhand, the Congress made a comeback in Punjab and the AAP was given a reality check, after exit polls predicted that the Arvind Kejriwal-led party would emerge as the single largest party in Punjab.

Counting took place at 157 centres -- Punjab (53), Goa (2), UP (75), Uttarakhand (15) and Manipur (12).

Exit polls by various news channel had predicted a hung assembly in the key Hindi heartland state of Uttar Pradesh where BJP would emerge as the single largest party, winning anywhere between 164 and 210 of the 403 seats. However, like Rahul Gandhi said, the exit polls didn't paint the real picture, as the Narendra Modi-led party won over 300 seats in the state, prompting a social media frenzy.

While leaders of various partiies had expressed confidence that they will emerge victorious on social media, the final results told a totally different story.
