Vijaya Dashami or Dussehra is the celebration that marks the end of the 9-day long festival of Navratri. The 10th day signifies the victory of Maa Durga over the demon, Mahishasura, and according to Ramayana, the defeat of the demon king Ravana.

Essentially, the day is a celebration of the victory of good over evil. Besides burning of effigies of the ten-headed Ravana, you can also spot a number of police stations, where weapons are worshipped.
