Hundreds of students and teachers of Delhi University, JNU and Jamia on Tuesday hit the streets with a call to "save" the varsities from the "onslaught" of ABVP and "curbing" of dissent.
The students held posters with messages like "Your nationalism is not above our democracy".
The protesters, mainly comprising students of left forums like AISA, shouted slogans "ABVP Go Back" and "Azaadi" as the march made its way through the roads of North Campus towards the Arts Faculty building.
The ABVP, which objected to a seminar at Ramjas College last week where JNU students Umar Khalid and Shehla Rashid were invited, on Monday took out a 'Tiranga march' from the college to Delhi University's Arts Faculty.
Raising slogans of 'Vande Mataram' and calling it a 'march for the nation', the ABVP members carried the national flag as they marched inside the Ramjas College campus.
Congress-affiliated National Students' Union of India (NSUI) is also organising a symbolic one-day hunger strike at Arts faculty followed by a 'Mashaal' rally .
Meanwhile, Gurmehar Kaur, a Kargil martyr's daughter and a Lady Shri Ram College student has withdrawn from her social media campaign against the outfit.
Kaur on Tuesday said she was withdrawing from it as she had been through a lot. "I'm withdrawing from the campaign. Congratulations everyone. I said what I had to say. I have been through a lot and this is all that my 20-year-old self could take," she said in a Facebook post.
