Asserting that party vice president Rahul Gandhi was abducted by the Delhi Police during a candle light march protest held in Jantar Mantar, the Congress Party on Thursday said the situation has panned out to be "worse than emergency" and is similar to a Hitlerian-like atmosphere.

Gandhi was detained again for the third time in two days on Thursday over his agitation against the Narendra Modi-led government on the alleged suicide of ex-servicemen Ram Kishan Grewal. "The Delhi Police has abducted Rahul Gandhi, and we don't where he is being taken. This is the second time we are trying to find him. We are trying to lodge a complaint. We don't know where he is. This is worse than emergency, worse than Hitler raj," Congress leader Jitendra Singh told ANI.

Earlier in the day, mortal remains of Grewal, who committed suicide over the One Rank One Pension (OROP) issue, were consigned to flames as his last rites were performed at his native village in Bhiwani.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi along with leaders Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Kamal Nath, Kiran Choudhry and Shailaja attended the cremation. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was also present during the last rites of Ram Kishan.

Kejriwal also targeted the Modi government, saying that the pride, which led down the Congress Party, will work the same way with Bharatiya Janata Party.

Meanwhile, the Delhi chief minister also announced Rs 1 crore for family of Grewal.

The suicide by the army veteran Ram Kishan Grewal over OROP on Wednesday snowballed into a political issue  with Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other Opposition leaders attacking the Modi government.

Gandhi was detained twice and was finally released late in Wednesday evening even as restrictions were imposed on Kejriwal's movements before he was briefly detained. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was kept in custody for close to 10 hours.

Forensic experts on Wednesday night conducted the postmortem on Grewal's body. The body was sent to Lady Hardinge Hospital from RML Hospital where he had died after being rushed from the lawns of a government building where he had consumed poison.
