The Nitish Kumar government on Friday proved its majority on the floor of the Bihar Assembly by winning the trust vote with the support of 131 legislators in the 243-member House.

131 MLAs voted in favour of Nitish Kumar, while 108 voted against.

Nitish Kumar was on Thursday sworn in as Bihar Chief Minister for the sixth time, along with BJP's Sushil Kumar Modi as his deputy, after he unexpectedly resigned on Wednesday and hours later joined hands with the BJP to reclaim the government in a stunning political manoeuvre that relegated his alliance partner RJD to the opposition.

The ostensible reason for Kumar to quit was his falling out with Deputy Chief Minister Yashaswi Yadav, the son of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad. Yadav is facing corruption charges but had refused to step down despite Kumar's exhortations.

Venting out his anger against Nitish Kumar, his former deputy Tejashwi Yadav tore into his former boss and asked him that did he not feel ashamed after sitting next to Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Sushil Kumar Modi.

"Did you not feel ashamed sitting next to Sushil Kumar Modi? You take out Champaran yatra and then stitch an alliance with a party which assassinated Mahatma Gandhi," said Tejashwi.

Tejashwi unleashing a tirade of fiery slavos on Kumar, said that the latter has stitched an alliance with a party who conspired the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.

On Thursday, Nitish Kumar had said the decision to form new government was taken in interest of Bihar. "We will take the state to the path of prosperity."

In the 243-member Bihar Assembly, the RJD has 80 MLAs, the Congress 27 and the CPI-ML has three.
