Rejecting the discharge application of  all12 accused, the Special CBI Court (Ayodhya Prakaran)  on Tuesday framed criminal conspiracy charges against former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani, ex-HRD minister Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, Union minister Uma Bharati and nine others under Section 120-B of the IPC.

Earlier, all the 12 accused appeared and surrendered before the Court which granted bail to them on personal bonds of 50,000 each. Pleading ‘not guilty’ on criminal conspiracy charges, counsels of the accused moved discharge application. The application was rejected by the Special CBI Judge S.K. Yadav while accepting arguments of the prosecution that it has all evidences to prove charges under Section 120-B.

The court then framed criminal charges against all 12 accused including L.K. Advani, Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharati, Vinay Katiyar, Sadhvi Ritambhara, Vishnua Hari Dalmia, Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, Dr Ram Vilas Vedanti, Champat Rai Bansal, Baikunth Lal Sharma, Mahant Dharam Das Maharaj and Satish Pradhan for the demolition of Babri mosque on December 6, 1992.

The senior BJP leader L.K. Advani caused a flutter in the Court when he refused to sign the charge-sheet served on him on the ground that it contained some serious technical and typographical errors. The court immediately ordered for its correction. Later, the corrected charge-sheet was signed by all the 12 accused to complete the process of framing of charges against them.

Counsels for the accused have announced to file revision petition in the Allahabad High Court against the CBI Special Court Tuesday order rejecting their discharge application. Among all the accused, Tuesday’s CBI Court order came as a major setback to the former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani and the Union minister Uma Bharati.

I am not a criminal, Uma Bharti ahead of Babri hearing

Ahead of her hearing in the Lucknow special CBI court in a case related to the demolition of the Babri Masjid, Union Minister Uma Bharti on Tuesday said that she is not a 'criminal'.

"It is the matter of God and in such a case I can only have expectations from him. Since I have taken part in it with devotion, I don't consider myself as a criminal," Bharti said.

"It was an open protest, as it was during the time of emergency. What conspiracy was there in it I don't know," she said.
