There’s little surprise for those who have seen the state-backed police's violent reaction to certain situations that were allowed to take certain shape by the government.
For instance, yoga guru Baba Ramdev was first armed with the sanction to conduct training for a limited 5000 people. He wanted a place like Ramlila Ground, near Turkman Gate and adjacent to Aruna Asaf Ali Marg, which looks empty even when a lakh people are gathered there.
This request is as much intriguing as its acceptance by the government which had a day- long confabulations with the 61-year-old saffron clad Baba in the strategically located Claridges hotel. The Britishers too used this century-old hotel for back-channel meetings with a variety of groups fighting for the freedom. Those chats held in the cosy comforts ultimately culminated into the midnight parliament session on August 14-15,1947. But many toxic sips the freedom fighters had before they could see the dawn of their choice.
It’s not known the sort of dialogue Baba had with ever smiling lawyer and HRD minister Kapil Sibal in the lead.
In fact Baba's Ramlila ground demonstration during the soaring temperature in the capital hotted up the minds of the administrators.
They had worked overnight putting sand bags at different locations. Why so? The answer isn't difficult to guess. Delhi has been under red alert since the killing of Osama bin Laden by Obama's marines. Why these bags now? There's nothing more than that, they would say. A resident of Gwalior who is a frequent visitor to Delhi, Leena, was the first person to report about piling up the sand bags at different locations.
“It seems preparations are being made to knock down an apprehended pitch battle with ordinary man,” she felt.
But an enraged Baba has been flown out to the cool environs of his sprawling patanjali shrine in Haridwar.
His pupils have been left behind to heal the wounds that they suffered for participating in the democratic struggle for wiping out demon like corruption from the country.
