Swine flu patient in Anand recovering

The condition of 25-year-old Ghanshyam Thakor, a resident of Rampura locality in Bakrol Village of Anand district, who was found to be suffering from swine flu, has improved considerably.

Doctors at the private hospital where he is being treated said that he is likely to be taken off the ventilator in a day or two. Earlier, on Wednesday, he was taken off the ventilator for a few hours but again put on it to allow his condition to improve further.

Dr Paresh Dave, additional director health, said that no new cases of H1N1 flu had been detected. He also said that other than the three samples that were sent to the lab for testing, no other samples of suspected cases were sent.

It should be noted that the three samples, taken from children immediately after Thakore was found to be suffering from swine flu, had tested negative. "I have been out of station but there no new cases have been reported in the state," said Dr Dave.

The government had gone on an overdrive after Thakor was found to have swine flu. His village was being monitored and so were his relatives to help prevent the spread of the disease.

Thakor had initially taken treatment at a primary health centre in Bakrol. “The medical officer had given him medicines for cough and cold," said the official. He further said that after his condition failed to improve, Thakor went to a private hospital run by one Dr Samir Patel on March 22 where it was confirmed that he was suffering from swine flu.
