Polio case detected in Malegaon

Health department officials in Malegaon have been alerted after the detection of second polio patient in the city since last year.

The child-patient, Shaikh Sultan Shaikh Akil, is being treated in Civil Hospital, Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC) health officer Bharat Wagh said today.

The case came to light during a polio awareness drive undertaken by the civic body. Seventeen suspected cases came to notice of which Akil tested positive for polio, he said.

During the drive, it was noticed that many children had not been administered polio vaccine doses, he said.

In January last year, one-and-half-year-old boy Mohammed Kasim Asarar Ahmed, was found suffering from polio, an acute viral infectious disease.

A special polio eradication drive will be carried out in the city from August 15, Wagh added.
