Mumbai doctor elected as president of International Diabetes Federation

The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) — which has a presence in 173 countries and has 231 national diabetes associations under it — has elected noted Mumbai doctor, Dr Shaukat M Sadikot to the post of president elect at their recently concluded general council meeting.  

 

Dr Sadikot, a leading endocrinologist in the country, currently holds the position of vice-president at the IDF. He will be assuming the office of president elect in 2013 and become president subsequently.

 

This is the first time in 40 years that an Indian has been elected to the post of the president of this international organisation. Dr Sadikot, who is currently attached to Jaslok Hospital said, “I am thankful to the entire IDF fraternity, which has showed trust in me. It not only brings pride to our country but also brings with it great responsibility. As a President of International Diabetes Federation, the onus will lie on me now to reach the maximum number of people and make better diabetes care “accessible, available and affordable” to all our people with diabetes. Prevention and education are also important aspects in the total management.”
