HNGU inks pacts for better healthcare education

The Patan-based Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University (HNGU) celebrated the 142nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in a different way. On Sunday, the university signed a memorandum of understanding (MoUs) with Care Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS), launched the Gujarat chapter of Association of Hospital Administration (AHA) and came to an understanding with Quality Council of India (QCI). These agreements will enable the university to provide better education to its healthcare students.

All the three agreements were announced at a function organised on Sunday at the Ahmedabad Management Association premises here.

The tie-up with CIMS will enable HNGU to make use of advanced technology, provide better infrastructure, and give an opportunity to its students to intern with the institute. Also, CIMS will be able to recruit students from the university.

Surgeon (Captain) NA Khan of AHA, New Delhi announced the Gujarat Chapter of AHA set up with the Department of Hospital Management, HNGU, Patan. The AHA will provide a global platform to HNGU students for academic enhancement.

As for the third tie-up, the MoU with QCI will provide HNGU the benefit of quality accreditation training and programme, said Dr Ashwin G Modi, co-ordinator, hospital management programme, at the university.

Apart from Khan and Ashwin Modi, the function was also attended by Dr Tom Armstrong, professor, Wheaton College, US; and Avik Mitra of QCI, New Delhi. HNGU vice-chancellor Dr HV Rao gave the presidential speech.

Talking about the QCI, Mitra said that there was a dearth of quality write-ups from students in India. "I have seen the standard of students' papers in countries like Japan, China, Taiwan and Korea. They are excellent. In the healthcare industry, so much is happening. Students can choose any aspect of the healthcare industry, give thought to its  issues and write about them," he told students present in the hall.
