I am a 27-year-old woman and I want to know how can I take care of my skin during monsoon?
Monsoon is a time when your skin is often unstable; suddenly it becomes oily or little dry and dehydrated. Regular cleansing is required in order to keep the skin looking fresh and healthy.

Toning is a must at night. During monsoon, a lot of airborne and waterborne microbes are let loose. So a good anti-bacterial toner will help prevent skin infections and eruptions. It is a good idea to get anti bacterial face wash too. Moisturising during the rains is as important as it is in summer. The skin gets wet often and with the constant wetting and drying, a lot of dehydration takes place. That explains the itchy feeling one gets during monsoons. Use a non-water based moisturiser, if you happen to get wet often. Otherwise a water-based moisturiser will do.

I am a working woman. I don’t like to wear closed footwear. But in the rains, how can I ensure that my feet are free from skin infections with my open footwear?
One way to take care of this is to use an anti-fungal soap such as Syndet for bathing. However, this may cause excessive dryness so restrict its use to the fold areas only. After bathing, apply anti-fungal powder on your feet. Clotrimazole, which is available at any medical store, is very effective. It is advisable to have it examined by a specialist, who can then prescribe a treatment customised to suit your needs. Also you could soak your feet in a tub of warm water and salt.

I am 30 and chemical cosmetics don’t suit my skin. Can you suggest any home remedies that I can whip up easily for the face as well as my feet during monsoon?
Sometimes our kitchen is the best source for soothing any skin ailments or itching felt on facial skin. During monsoons, our skin gets wet more often than usual. Different types of skin react to this problem differently. Skin can either become very dry or get prone to acne or it can become very oily and attract dirt and pollutants. If you have an oily skin, then try a paste out made out of gram flour and raw milk/ cream and apply it. Leave it for 15 minutes and wash with cold water. If you have a dry skin than take some rosewater, add glycerine and rub it all over your skin. These ingredients contain properties that soften the skin.
