Adapted from Jodi Picoult's 2004 bestseller, My Sister's Keeper is a weepie about  long-suffering family Fitzerald with teenage daughter Kate, diagnosed with leukemia at an early age and in and out of hospitals ever since, and 11-year-old Anna, who was conceived in vitro as a perfect genetic match for Kate. The drama involves several issues about questionable ethics in medical science.

Writer-director Nick Cassavetes and co-script writer Jeremy Leven retain most of Picoult’s story with it’s multiple points of view . Staying loyal to the genre sign-posts, they also interweave the narrative with flashbacks that bring to the fore the history of Kate’s illness and it’s impact on the family at every stage.

Aaron Zigman’s score is plaintively evocative while the add-on pop tunes lend heart-tugging support to the narrative which appears to be hell-bent on heavy-duty tear-letting. This is a carefully planned emotionally draining onslaught of achy melodrama-The kind of stuff that could draw in the female crowd in droves!
