Review: 'Bheema Theeradalli' (Kannada)

With real life stories being the trend of the day, this film too is based on a real life incident that occurred in 1985 in North Karnataka.

Director N Omprakash Rao deserves appreciation for adapting the real life story to reel but we would have been more appreciative if the amount of violence was reduced, too.

The surprise element in the film is the much hyped inclusion of the current excise minister Renukacharya, which fails to go down well with the audience.

Vijay steals the show with his acting skills, especially with his scintillating performance in stunt sequences. Pranitha has nothing to do other than appearing in a few sequences, a completely wasted effort. Suchendra Prasad, as a cunning and greedy politician, has acted well, while Sharath Lohitasva and Loknath are good supporting role characters.

Umashree, however, walks away with all the honours as her performance in a scene where she encounters Suchendra Prasad is superb.

The story is all about Chandappa (Vijay) who supports Shashikant Desai (Suchendra Prasad) in an election against Mallappa (Sharath Lohitasva) expecting him to provide basic amenities at his village. However, Desai, like any politician, forgets his responsibility and indulges in corrupt activities.

Impressed by Chandappa’s good behavior and determination to fight for the welfare of villagers, Bheemavva (Pranitha), the sister of Desai, falls in love with him. However, Desai has other ideas.

He joins hands with his political opponents to eliminate Chandappa. What happens to Bheemavva and Chandappa is the climax.

The film is worth a watch if you want to know about Chandappa of Bheematheera, and have the patience to cope with the extremely gory scenes, else it is quite simply, avoidable.
