'Kool.... Sakkath Hot Maga' could have been cooler

Film: Kool.... Sakkath Hot Maga (Kannada)
Director: Ganesh
Cast: Ganesh, Sana Khan, Sharan, Sadhu Kokila, Sangeetha Shetty, Kishore Ballal

For an actor who has tasted success at the very beginning of his career with movies like Mungaru Male, Gaalipata and Krishna — we were quite certain that being a director at this stage wouldn’t have be the easiest task for Ganesh. After all, all eyes would be on him! And, to bring out a movie that boasts of a top-notch cinematographer, music director and editor, along with the rest of the crew, is no joke! Be it the controversies the film went through in its early stage or the hit songs, Kool... Sakkath Hot Maga had enticed his fans with much expectations. But did Golden Star Ganesh succeed is the big question?

With Ooty lending a rather exotic background, the film is about Ganesh and Sana Khan who are classmates. After the stereotypical scenes of the hero and heroine engaging in petty squabbles, Sana falls in love with Ganesh. However, their love story is not as smooth as we’d all like it to be and the movie flows along with enough surprises to keep the audience interested.

The story is simple — a love story with its share of fights, songs, comedy and emotions and Ganesh’s performance is undoubtedly good; be it the way he delivers funny lines or enacts the more serious scenes. It is however Sana’s character that demands a lot from the actor and even though she looks absolutely fabulous in the song sequences, she slips down the scale when it comes to delivering some of the emotional scenes. Sharan-Sadhu’s comedy sequences, however, do tickle your funny bone.

One must watch Kool... for its songs, exotic locations and the way in which every scene has been captured by top-notch lensman Rathnavelu, be it the way he establishes the village scene or captures the striking locales of Australia. With songs like 'Nodutha Nodutha' and 'Chandrana' making quite the impact, the film is not without its high points.

Unfortunately, what doesn’t quite work is the art of storytelling, which could have been tighter. Ganesh, as a director, is yet to prove his capability but as an actor, he can still rock the screen.
