Be kicked about 'Cyclekick'

Film: Cyclekick
Cast: Nishan Nanaiah, Sunny Hinduja, Tom Alter, Girija Oak, Dwij Yadav
Director: Shashi Sudigala
Rating: *1/2

There’s not much you expect when you walk in to watch Cyclekick. In fact you hardly expect anything at all. But that’s also why the film comes across as a pleasant surprise. Despite the shoe-string budget on which the film’s made, the simplicity is endearing rather then being shoddy. The backdrop is simple, the story even simpler. It’s the classic underdog story that we’ve seen umpteen times on the screen. Despite the fact that the urban youth may find it hard to understand how a cycle can hold such great significance in anyone’s life, you can’t help but feel for the characters. Nishan as the older mature brother Ramu and Sunny as the hot-headed rebel Ali are convincing performers, and so is the young kid Dwij.

The story set in a small town revolves around how a cycle changes the life of two brothers. While the relationship they share and the foes-turning-friends angle is well-tackled, the love angle seemed awkward. The climax is predictable too, but it doesn’t stop you from waiting for the outcome with a baited breath. Overall, it’s a sweet and simple film and you won’t regret catching it for sure.
