As boring, unfunny as an insipid life partner

Life Partner
Cast:  Govinda, Fardeen Khan, Tusshar Kapoor, Genelia D’Souza, Prachi Desai
Director: Rumi Jaffery
Rating: «

This is the story of three friends with differing views on marriage. Karan (Fardeen Khan) is clear that he will marry girlfriend Sanjana (Genelia D’Souza); Bhavesh (Tusshar Kapoor) is a traditional Gujarati destined for a marriage arranged by his domineering, unbending father; Jeet (Govinda) is a divorce lawyer who sees profit in the failure of marriage and is quick to lend a shoulder to the grieving ex-wife.

Set in Cape Town, South Africa (which has begun to look like an extension of Film City), the film follows the ups and downs of these three characters and their relationships. Karan and Sanjana’s marriage falls apart when she is unable to conform to his perception of a wife; Bhavesh and Prachi (Prachi Desai) split up because he sides with his father’s archaic rules rather than support his progressive wife; Jeet helps them divorce but ends up finding a life partner for himself.

Regressive, boring, tacky, completely unfunny and supported by forgettable songs, dialogues that are constantly yelled out and the most uninspired set of performances imaginable, Life Partner feels like a TV serial episode rather than a feature film. One can even forget about the rest, but seeing Govinda deteriorate to this level is indeed sad.
Much like his earlier dud God Tussi Great Ho, director Rumi Jaffery seems to have instructed his actors to shout out all their lines. If you decide to chance this film, carry a set of earplugs.
