Review: 'Super Shastri' (Kannada) anything but super

Film: Super Shastri (Kannada)
Cast: Umashree, Prajwal Devaraj, Haripriya
Director:
Raviraj
Rating: *1/2

This week, hit Telugu film Seema Shastri comes to you as Super Shastri in Kannada. And for those of you who haven’t watched the original, here’s a brief on the plot...

Subramanya Shastri (Prajwal Devaraj), a priest, is the main protagonist. His life takes a U-turn after he  falls in love with Soumya (Haripriya) without knowing her family background. Despite her family’s non-acceptance, will Shastri be able to win her over? Are you wondering whether it’s worth sitting through the film to know the answer, Well, most definitely not!

This flick sadly is not half as entertaining as the original as director Raviraj has failed to even present a remake film properly. Kashi Vishwanath’s cinematography is also disappointing. The screenplay will irritate the audience further. A scene in the film that shows a particular community in poor light may also not go down well with too many. When it comes to the performances of lead actors, Prajwal has not done justice to the lead role. Haripriya looks glamourous but has no scope to showcase her acting skills. Umashree appears in a few scenes but walks away with all the honours.

Her dialogue delivery deserves appreciation in particular. Saving grace comes only in the form of Deva’s music. Don’t think too much before giving this film a miss, is our final verdict!
