'Nannaku Prematho' review: Hit combo of Jr NTR and Sukumar elevates this film
Nannaku Prematho

Film: Nannaku Prematho

Cast: Jr NTR, Jagapathi Babu, Rakul Preet Singh

Director: Sukumar

Rating: ***

What it's about: Jr NTR's Sankranti release is a much-awaited one this year. Young Tiger, as he is referred to, plays the role of Abhi in this revenge drama. His 25th movie is a clear departure from Jr NTR's previous films— it's a commercial film but also an emotional entertainer. Abhi is a smart, intelligent young man living in London. One day his father is diagnosed with terminal cancer and given just 30 days to live. His father then reveals who he really is and what happened to his business when Jr NTR and his brothers were children. Abhi's father was cheated by Krishnamurthi and now he wants his children to take revenge. While Abhi's brothers don't take it seriously, he wants to fulfil his father's wish. Abhi gets Krishnamurthy's daughter, Divyanka, to fall in love with him. How does Abhi get revenge? What does he do to Krishnamurthy? Is Divyanka just a pawn in this game?

What's good: Director Sukumar has made an extremely slick, stylish film that presents Jr NTR in a new avatar. The script may not be great but he has presented it in a different manner. Jr NTR has essayed the role of a son who is extremely emotionally attached to his dad, yet logical with a killer instinct, to a T.

Jagapathi Babu's choice for the role of Krishnamurthy was perfect casting as well. The negative chemistry and tension between Abhi and Krishnamurthy comes out really well on screen and their performances elevate the film. Rakul Preet Singh shines as Divyanka in the film. Though she has dubbed for herself in a Telugu film for the first time, she has done a very professional job. The visuals and the dialogues are also a treat in this movie. Sukumar strikes a chord with the audience by focusing on the father-son emotional bond. One must also mention that Young Tiger dazzles with his dance in the songs. He is uber stylish in this movie which will definitely win him more female fans.

What's not: Since the movie is not a typical commercial film with lots of masala, it is dialogue-heavy for the most part. But this can be overlooked.

What to do: Watch the film for the hit combination of Sukumar and Jr NTR combination. The father-son bond is reinforced in this emotional drama.
