You won’t see Namitha in a sexy avatar anymore

When someone mentions Namitha, the words ‘sexy’ and ‘glamourous’ automatically come to mind. But the Punjabi lass is now determined to break away from that stereotype and be known as a ‘serious’ actor. This is why she has been choosing extremely different films lately, the latest being Benki Birugali in Sandalwood, where she’ll be seen doing action.

“In this industry, it is very important for a heroine to make a separate name for herself. How long can one be satisfied doing the same old glamourous roles? I know it is a big deal, being called sexy, but I want to push myself and do some substantial roles,” says Namitha, justifying her recent choice of films,

Talking about Benki Birugali, she says, “It is a film that has a lot of scope as far as what the heroine can do, which is why I chose to do the role and agreed quite readily too. It is a suspense thriller and the heroine performs some interesting action stunts. I’ve not done that before and am quite excited about it.” Namitha also tried out something interesting earlier this year when her film Ilaignan released. “It was the first time I tried playing a character with grey shades. These are the roles that challenge people as actors and I’d love to do more such roles. I was humbled when I learnt M Karunanidhi wanted only me for that role and I was very happy when my performance went down well with both critics and the audiences,” she says.

Quiz Namitha if we will never get to see her in her sexy avatar again, and she instantly replies, “Currently, I want to satisfy my creative urges by doing as many varied roles that I can lay my hands on. As an actor, I really love this phase. I’ve already shown my sexy avatar, so that will take a backseat.”
