Why Shah Rukh asked Yash Chopra for two hours of his time

That actor Shah Rukh Khan and producer-director Yash Chopra’s bond goes back a long way is stuff of Bollywood legend. The actor and filmmaker are seen as a formidable duo at the box-office — one that has never failed.  And the pair is once again in the news with all eyes set on their next release Jab Tak Hain Jaan.

The filmmaker turns 80 tomorrow, September 27, and Shah Rukh, it is learnt, wants to make his mentor’s birthday, a special one. 

Says a source, “Much has been written about Yash Chopra’s 80th birthday celebrations — from a grand party where all his heroines will come together for the event, to him going for a holiday with wife Pamela to London. But the truth is something else altogether. It’s a known fact that Shah Rukh holds Yashji in very high regards and has known him for many years. And so, he has planned a special evening for him on his birthday.”

Buzz has it that the actor made a special request to Chopra — to spend two hours of his birthday with him. “Yes, he asked two hours from Yashji,” affirms a source. “SRK is planning an event of sorts for Yashji, where people will get to see him and interact with Yashji.  The actor will make the filmmaker recount his journey —on the screen and out of it. He also has plans to get the filmmaker to cut a cake. Shah Rukh, who’s involved in the complete planning of the mini event for Yashji’s birthday, is very excited about doing something for his mentor,” adds the source.

SRK has worked with Yash Chopa in Darr, Veer Zaara earlier. And if Darr established Shah Rukh has a star to be reckoned with in Bollywood, Chopra’s son Aditya sealed the superstar as the King of Romance in Bollywood and rewrote the grammar of filmmaking with Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.
