Why choose between Shah Rukh and Salman? asks Malaika Arora-Khan

The item number scene may have been run over by the leading ladies in B-Town in recent times, with almost all top actors stepping into the dancing shoes of the item girl, but Bollywood’s original item girl, diva Malaika Arora Khan is unfazed by all competition.

“I don’t look at anyone as competition. I am comfortable in my own space and I’m really secure about what I do, so there’s no question of worrying about other entrants in the picture,” says Malaika, whose Anarkali disco chali track in Housefull 2 is being appreciated.

Talking about leading actors now taking up item numbers more frequently, she feels that there are bound to be comparisons, but no pressure.

“I am not here to prove that I’m the best dancer in town. I dance simply because I enjoy dancing. It’s fun,” she adds. As for her outdoing her own number, Malaika feels that she tries to make one dance number as different as possible from the other.

“Routine bores me, so I like to try different styles of dancing. Like Anarkali has elements of the classic mujra, as well as contemporary dance. So it was awesome doing it. It was completely different from Munni or anything I’d done before,” she says.

But her fundas on dance are not the only thing that Malaika’s so clear about. The actor is equally vocal about not wanting to steer towards full-time acting anytime soon. “I’ve enjoyed my mini-stints in acting, but I’m not looking forward to getting into a full-fledged acting career as such. I believe in ‘never say never for anything in life’, but for now, I am happy dancing and as a producer making others dance to my tune,” she laughs.

Ask her about her all-time favourite numbers and she’s quick to say, “Chhaiyaa Chhaiyya and Munni!” Of frenemies, actors Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan? Doesn’t she feel the pressure of balancing between the two stars? “Whatever’s between the two, is between them. That’s never affected us, so why choose between Shah Rukh and Salman?” smiles Malaika.
