Who is she: Sanjeeda Sheikh

In a classic re-run to what happened to actor Zeenat Aman recently, TV actor Sanjeeda Sheikh was impersonated exactly the same way on social networking site Facebook.

Zeenat has already lodged a police complaint saying that somebody has created an account in her name and that person was sending obscene messages and lewd chats online posing as her. Now Sanjeeda says that she too is facing the same kind of (online) harassment.

“I am present on Facebook but I am not that active. Somebody at a party told me (about two months back) ‘Oh! You didn’t go to Singapore? But you told me that you would go…’ I immediately realised that something was amiss and I asked her when she talked to me. My friend then told me that I had sent her a ‘friend request’ and she accepted it. After that, she has been chatting to me amost every alternate day. I was dumb-struck because I had no idea about this,” says Sanjeeda.

At first, the pretty actor says that she ignored this because she thought it was a harmless prankster. But the problem didn’t stop there.

“Soon, I realised that this impersonator had reached most of my friends in the industry and was chatting to them regularly. Some of them also complained that they have been receiving lewd and obscene messages. At this point I decided not to take things lightly,” Sanjeeda adds.

Sanjeeda wrote a formal complaint to the social networking site and is in the process of collecting evidence so that she can lodge a police complaint against the impersonator.

“This is so sad. Sometimes it really hurts when a close friend comes up and talks to you and says that she is hurt the way I have spoken to her. It feels terrible when you have to explain to them and convince them that you really don’t know what’s happening behind your back,” she ends.
