What’s with the brawlfest B-Town?

Bollywood has recently seen an upsurge in actors getting aggressive — what’s prompting such public display of rage?

What’s with the brawlfest B-Town?

Move over films, there is more real life drama happening at Bollywood parties than reel. B-town which has always been famous for its lavish parties has now become the breeding ground for breaking up and bashing up.  Actors are openly expressing their aggressive side and picking fights in public and continuing them on Twitter or other public forums.
On Monday, actor Shah Rukh Khan got into a scuffle with filmmaker, Shirish Kunder and ended up slapping him when he was apparently provoked by the latter.

While this is the most recent amongst the fights, this is definitely not the first time. It all began at the infamous birthday bash that actor Salman Khan threw for then girlfriend Katrina Kaif. Almost the entire industry including Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and their friends were present when a scuffle broke out between Shah Rukh and Salman. The argument got so intense that they almost came to blows with each other.

The fight abruptly came to a standstill when Shah Rukh’s wife Gauri apparently intervened and they both left the party. Ever since the fight, the duo hasn’t spoken to each other and the industry has been divided into two distinct camps — the Shah Rukh and Salman camp. Before that the two had a fight during the making of Chalte Chalte.  The duo then made up at Farah Khan’s wedding.
Ever since that fight, there have been lot of others that have followed suit. Recently Salman reportedly got into an argument with producer Bunty Walia at Sanjay Dutt’s wife Maanyata’s bash.

Things took an ugly turn, and finally Dutt had to apparently intervene to stop the fight and apparently Sanju and Sallu later got into a fight. Fights are not a new phenomenon says industry expert, Taran Adarsh. “It is not regularity but not like it has never happened. There have been instances in the past where people have got into a fight but that’s human nature. Having said that, I am sure Shah Rukh would never do anything of this sort without being extremely provoked. I know Shah Rukh and he is a thorough gentleman. Something must have really bothered him to react like this.” Social psychologist Seema Hingorani attributes these public brawls to their stressful lives. “Actors lead extremely stressful lives and more often than not, cannot channelise their anger in the right way. Shah Rukh’s outburst was the result of his suppressed anger that probably came out all at once. Also actors have a huge ego. They aren’t used to people taking bad about them and cannot take criticism constructively,” she said.
