Unhappy with the way homosexuality is portrayed in our films, actor Rajit Kapoor has decided to take matters into his own hands.
Rajit Kapoor has agreed to play a gay character for dear friend Deepti Naval who is making her directorial debut in Do Paise Ki Dhoop Chaar Aane Ki Baarish.
Rajit says, “All the gay characters in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion were effeminate. Even this actor in Onir’s new film (Rajit names a committed serious Bengali actor) is just showing off in his performance.”
Apprently none of her actor friends were willing to play the gay character in Deepti’s film.
Says Rajit, “I was helping Deepti with her script when I was struck by what a wonderful and humane story it was. I had only one condition. That the gay character should not be shown as a stereotype like in most of our films.”
He adds, “What is the big deal about showing your behind on screen while playing a gay man? I did that aeons ago in The Train To Pakistan. And I wasn’t even playing a gay character.”
Rajit is ready to be asked about his sexual preference once the film is released. “I’m sure I’ll get twenty calls asking if I am gay. Would they ask me if I was a serial killer if I played one?”
