Vir Das all set to tickle your funny bones yet again

The comedian's latest act — a casual satire — with The Cardinal Bengans and his comic rock band Alien Chutney has tickled everyone pink.

Vir Das all set to tickle your funny bones yet again

His sarcasm and caustic criticism soaked in a comic coating can leave you in splits! Actor, comedian Vir Das might have been performing with his band Alien Chutney after long now, but that doesn’t dilute the charm of the act. What makes it even more engaging is the fact that, as Vir puts it, “it is a comedy double dose”.

In a two-hour long show, Vir throws candid comedy in his characteristic cut, loose style that includes impressive intonations and affected accents.

And not only this, the act comprises of Alien Chutney followed by the improv comedy troupe The Cardinal Bengans.

Alien Chutney, which also happens to be India’s first comic rock band, comprises of Vir Das, Kaizad Gherda, Sidd Coutto and Warren Mendonsa, while the Cardinal Bengans includes Vir, Ashwin Mushran, Anu Menon, Kavi Shastri, Aditi Mittal, Rohan Joshi and Tanmay Bhat.

Vir explains how this show stands apart from any of his earlier performances. “It’s a double dose of comedy. There’s a musical comedy and then there’s the regular humour in the Bengans’ style. Since it’s improvised comedy, the audiences are more involved.”

The band’s blunt satire comes out well in their songs, which include a comic take on a sabjiwali; the village man, and a lampoonery pointing out the idiosyncrasies of Delhi and Mumbai girls!

The Bengans, on the other hand, have a relatively lighter dose of humour to offer — though more engaging and witty.
The comedian is also working on a studio album with his band and promises to announce it soon. Reluctant to share much about it, Vir says, “It is in the process. You’ll get to know of it soon. Perhaps by September the album will be out.”
