Veteran French rocker Hallyday has new operation

Veteran French rocker Johnny Hallyday has undergone an operation in Los Angeles, where he was admitted to the Cedars-Sinai hospital on Monday, a statement from his publicists said on Thursday.

Hallyday, one of France's most popular entertainers in a career spanning almost 50 years, has been suffering health problems recently, and underwent an operation in France last month for a herniated disc.

He was admitted to hospital this week after complaining of severe pain during the flight from Paris to Los Angeles.

The statement from his publicists said that doctors had decided to operate to repair lesions from the operation on November 26. It said his situation was "under control."

In September, the 66-year-old singer told the weekly Tele Star that he had been operated upon to treat colon cancer, and that the treatment had been successful.
