The inexhaustible Aroona Irani is back with another show Vaidehi - Ek Aur Agni Pareeksha. Known for producing serials that lavishly celebrate love and life (Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand and Rabba Ishq Na Hove), Aroona’s show this time too hinges on love and betrayal with elements of suspense interwoven.
Aroona, who pencilled in actor Pallavi Kulkarni (of Kehta Hai Dil fame) for playing the protagonist shares, “The show is based on a true story. The catch line has come from my friend’s life. She was trapped in a situation which she couldn’t speak about.”
Quiz Aroona about what made her zero in on Pallavi, after always having Sangita Ghosh as her mascot, she says, “You have to see the show to believe it. Pallavi suits the role of Vaidehi, a simple girl who can turn aggressive when required.” She adds about actor Sachin Sharma, who plays the male lead, “He suited the character of a tycoon, displaying a sophisticated and commanding presence.”
A gushing Aroona also reveals how she couldn’t resist playing the benign mother-in-law, despite having production pressures, “I play a loving mother-in-law who is answerable to her husband (Kiran Kumar).”
Quiz her on why in the millennium do we need a show that shows a subjugated Eve and she shoots back, “Don’t women suffer even today? Vaidehi is one of Sita’s various names. Even in this age women go through a kind of agni pareeksha.”
Aroona throws a challenge, “Initially, it will be the women but given the compelling theme, men will watch this show too!” In fact, we aim to go interactive with the viewers. We will ask their views on how Vaidehi should be dealing with her problems.”
Incidentally, Aroona self-confessedly has gone through a ‘rollercoaster’ life. Ask her on what defines her buoyant spirit and the actor replies, “Every time I hit a low, I ask myself, ‘Kya isse bura nahin huva tere saath? Come on get up! As long as I work, I will stay young and alive!”
Preview: Vaidehi…Ek aur Agni Pareeksha is the story of a young, spirited, middle-class girl. One day she receives a marriage proposal from one of the richest families in the country - the Jaisinghs. Vaidehi is apprehensive about marrying Aryavardhan but on seeing him she's swept off her feet. But on her wedding night she realises that it's all a façade…The show premieres tonight on Sony at 10:00 pm
