Two Indian films at Venice International Film Festival

Two Indian films Anhey Ghohrey da Daan (Alms of a Blind Horse) and Son Chidi (The Golden Bird) have been selected for Venice International Film Festival, which will also showcase a restored version of Mani Kaul's Duvidha.

Anhey Ghohrey da Daan is an NFDC film and is directed by newcomer Gurvinder Singh while Son Chidi has been directed by Amit Dutta. The films will have their world premiere in the Orizzonti section of the festival, which is dedicated to new currents in international cinema.

The festival, which runs from August 31 to September 10, will also screen a restored version of the landmark 1973 classic Duvidha, in homage to Kaul who passed away recently.

"Indian contemporary cinema is about to get a new face lift. It's a laboratory of the various modes of expression in the visual arts within the larger workshop," said Nina Lath Gupta, the managing director of NFDC.

Singh and Dutta will screen their movies alongside directors like Gabriel Abrantes and Daniel Schmidt, Mauro Andrizzi, Joseph Dabernig, Edgardo Cozarinsky and Wattanapume Laisuwanchai.
