Top 10 reasons to visit Australia

On a first time visit Down Under, actor Genelia D’Souza found a melange of things to make her break memorable

Top 10 reasons to visit Australia

Howard Bridge: It takes good three hours to get there but the view is worth it — you can see the entire city from here.

London Bridge: Yes, they have a bridge by that name here. It’s actually formed amidst the ocean’s waters — lovely!

Loch Ard Gorge and the Twelve Apostles:  The Loch Ard Gorge is a part of Port Campbell National Park. It is named after a clipper ship that ran into trouble. The Twelve Apostles, another beautiful sight off the shore of the Port Campbell National Park, is a site with limestone rock stacks. Due to the wear and tear of water there are just eight huge singular rock stacks in the ocean.

Local folk: When I thought of going to Australia, I was thrilled but sceptical considering the news on how Indians were treated there, but the people were very friendly.

The animals: Australia has such unique animal life and in rural and outback Australia, it’s not unusual to see kangaroos grazing in the late afternoon sun and see the flightless emu going about its business. I also visited the wildlife zoo, which was a lot of fun. Being an animal lover, I was so excited as I fed every animal, including the kangaroo.

Musicians: My mom and I saw many talented musicians playing at the cafes and street corners.

The weather: It’s very pleasing and makes you want to step outdoors.

Shopping: In Australia, you have malls, as well as side street boutiques, weekend markets and other craft galleries. The jewellery, bush-style clothing and designer clothing have an unmistakable Australian flavour. Boutique wineries: I made a trip to the little boutique wineries. You can also meet the winemaker and purchase wine by the bottle or the case.

Luna Park: This place has a 1930s fun fair with vintage rides and keeping with the theme is the North Sydney Olympic Swimming Pool with its own restaurant that offers over Sydney harbour.
