The script inspires me, says music composer Amit Trivedi

Post the success of Dev D and Wake Up Sid, music director Amit Trivedi has been taking it easy. He only has three films in the pipeline right now — Udaan, Aisha and No One Killed Jessica. The reason is Amit is a very choosy composer.

“I am choosy about what I pick. The script and the story have to inspire me. All the films— Aamir, Wake Up Sid and Dev D were scripts that moved me. Apart from that, the relationships with the people you work with can also inspire you,” says Amit.

After rave reviews for his version of 'Iktara', Amit will be singing a lot more in his forthcoming films. While he has sung three tracks in a forthcoming film, he has also sung a track in Aisha. “It is a youthful film. The music is more mainstream than some of my earlier stuff. I am singing the song Suno Aisha which is a peppy romantic song,” he says, adding, “But for Vikram Motwane’s  upcoming film I have sung three songs and each one is in a different zone,” he says.

Amit accepts that he does feel the pressure that comes with instant and early success. “The credit for the success of Dev D goes entirely to Anurag. I just stuck to his brief and it worked. The success I got for it does put pressure to perform. I get very nervous whenever my music comes out. Right now too I am keeping my fingers crossed,” he says.

He has been referred to as an experimental composer, but Trivedi believes that there is no point in experimenting for the sake of it. “I have tried to fulfil the demands of the script and the director of the film. I just go with the flow of the narrative. So what I compose depends on the subject and the treatment,” says Amit.
