The games have just begun: Actress Madhuri Bhattacharrya

Ashok Kheny’s Prem Kaa Game is surely the take-off point of her career, and actor Madhuri Bhattacharrya is on centrestage awaiting the next act of her play for stardom. With offers pouring in, the girl has her head on her shoulders, and is not rushing into just about any project, lest she makes an inappropriate career move.

Madhuri, who is a law graduate and a model from Bangalore, defends her decision saying, “Yes, I am in a hurry but not in a tearing rush. I look at my next phase as a more crucial period wherein I have to be more careful about which projects I choose. The audiences today are more demanding and expect the artiste to also grow with each release.”

After playing a glamorous role in Prem Kaa Game, would she be open to roles that offer her more scope for her performance but projecting a more traditional appearance?

“I think it’s a myth that a glamorous role does not call for a good performance. In fact I feel that if I come through sophisticated and stylish as required by the character I play in Prem Kaa Game, it actually goes to show that I have performed well. However, I would be absolutely open to playing a variety of well-written characters which require me in a lesser sophisticated appearance. In fact I feel more glamour is achieved through simplicity. I recently shot for two Kannada music videos with Sonu Niigaam and was dressed throughout traditionally in the local Coorgi attire. And the accolades the music videos and I received were clearly visible by the one lakh copies the music album sold in the very first month of its launch”

Though she has described herself as not being in a tearing rush, she has been quite an achiever at a young age.

When asked what’s the next game she intends playing and with whom, Madhuri says, “The name of my next game and its players are now not as important as the fact that the games have just begun.”
