The bhabhi with a difference

Actor Pranoti Pradhan plays an atypical Gujarati in ‘Thodi Khushi Thode Gham’.

The camera is not new to her. Actor Pranoti Pradhan, who plays Bhavna bhabhi in ‘Thodi Khushi Thode Gham’ (Sony), began her tryst with it as a child actor in shows ‘Mamaji’, and ‘Rishtey’. She even won the RAPA award for the best child actor.

Graduating to TV shows, Pranoti  got her big break with Shobahna Desai Productions’ family show ‘Thodi …’. She elaborates on her character, “Bhavna is a gynaecologist married to Manoj (Kapil Soni). Though she’s educated and wants to pursue her career, she gives in to father-in-law Masnukhlal’s rules.” She underlines the USP of her character saying, “Despite playing a Gujarati character, I display no typical mannerisms. There’s a level-headed simplicity in Bhavna.” Pranoti feels elated when people recognise her as ‘Bhavna bhabhi’ on the streets.

Though she’s very grateful to Shobhana Desai Productions for this break, Pranoti is open to Balaji offers as well. She says, “My priority is ‘Thodi…’ but if Ektaa Kapoor notices something in an actor, she knows how to highlight it.” Where films are concerned, Pranoti is firm about not doing ‘bahen’ roles.

The petite actor is also firm about the man she wants to marry and asserts, “He should be simple and genuine with no masks. As it is we are acting all day.”
