'Tere Bin Laden' to open The Friars Club’s Comedy Film Festival in New York

Satirical film Tere Bin Laden, which features a fake Osama Bin Laden, will be the opening movie at The Friars Club’s Comedy Film Festival.

The movie, which is banned in Pakistan, tells the story of a young Pakistani reporter who creates a bogus video of the terrorist mastermind in order to obtain a visa to the United States.

The flick pokes fun at American media's obsession with capturing bin Laden and hasn’t yet to got a distribution deal in the US because of its sensitive subject matter.

"I still don't understand why it was banned in Pakistan. It's a satire on terror, on the Bush regime. At the end of the day, it's about the American dream,” the New York Post quoted Abhishek Sharma, the movie's director, as saying.

"The only guy that can get offended by this film is Bin Laden himself. Which is fine because he's been offending people all this time," Sharma added.

The Friars Club festival's closing movie Four Lions is a dark British comedy and that also touches on terrorism.
