Tanaaz postpones wedding

Actor Tanaaz Lal has decided to stall her wedding to Bakhtyaar Irani, to be able to take care of her ailing mother.

Tanaaz postpones wedding

Tanaaz Lal and Bakhtyaar Irani have postponed their wedding that was to take place on November 18. And it’s not because they have broken up! Their love story has been one that has weathered more storms than any other in recent times. Initially, their parent’s reluctance to accept their relationship was a difficult period for Tanaaz and Bakhtyaar. And months later, after they had announced their intention to get married, both their parents did finally meet and ended up liking each other, much to the duo’s surprise.

The families had decided on a simple agiary wedding and despite rehearsing for over 12 hours daily for ‘Nach Baliye2’ (Star One), Tanaaz and Bakhtyaar were all set to tie the knot. Why the postponement now? Tanaaz says, “I lost my father in August this year and it has been traumatic ever since. He died of cancer and my mother has been our strength. She has always put up a brave front. We are still in mourning and just two weeks back we have learnt something disturbing relating to my mother’s health. It has become a cause for concern,” reveals Tanaaz.

Saying that her mother, 65 years of age, has been detected with having a very large cyst in her liver, Tanaaz adds, “She is going for more tests and the diagnosis and so far, nothing is very clear. She may have to undergo surgery and coupled with my father’s death, this has come as a painful shock.”

“I have discussed this with Bakhtyaar and he fully supports my decision. We have put aside our personal happiness and have decided to be there for my mother. His family have also been very understanding about the postponement of our wedding. Nowadays, it is rare that youngsters take their parent’s feelings into consideration and deep down, for both Bakhtyaar and myself, respect for our parents comes first,” says Tanaaz.

Giving great performances on ‘Nach...’, despite this personal trauma must not have been easy for Tanaaz. “It has been a very harrowing time but work is also a priority. This is a competition and no excuses will be entertained. I have never let my personal life interfere with my work. Now, it’s a tough fight on the show and only concentration and hard work is going to see us through,” says Tanaaz firmly.

Stating that her father’s mourning period will end in February and by then even the status on her mother’s health will be more clear, Tanaaz adds, “We will set a date for sometime in or after February. By then, I will get enough time to see that my mother is fine and settled.”
